Rebirth of the Small

It’s been a big year for smallness. I hadn’t originally planned on writing anything like a ‘wrap up’ for the year until I went to put my music on and was offered the Spotify wrap thing. I like that feature.

“Taste like yours can’t be defined. But let’s try anyway.” Quite right, Spotify, quite right.

Listening age: 74. Sounds about right.

Top Song: KIM by Kanye West. I remember that period well… the falcon returned, finally.

Top Album: Chopin Recital by Valentina Lisitsa. I don’t remember that one much. It must have been on in the background while I got absorbed in something else.

The rest wasn’t that interesting. Except for one day in late July, when I listened to nearly 5 hours of music… mostly just one song. I know exactly what happened that day, but that’s a story for another day, maybe one for the journal.

But what has this year really been about? Arrival, Emergence and Incarnation. Big words, yet they served a small purpose… What a joy it is to be small!

So here I am, writing my ‘year in retrospect’ piece at the beginning of December, because I do what I want.

I’m glad that the journal project has been integrated. For the most part, it seems to have done its job, and now it can continue to function as I always envisioned it.

But for now, here I am, writing a proper blog post… the final form of my website? Maybe. I knew I wanted to fiddle around with the website again. I also then went to my old social media accounts and changed the profile descriptions to a simple, uniform couple of statements: Completed account. Find me on my website.

All arrows point back to my smallness. Lovely. Who knew someone had to complete social media? Who knew the age of self-expression would lead to an inevitable rebirth of smallness? Me. But only in retrospect, of course.

Anyway, here’s to a finally right-sized corner of the internet! I think this World Wide Web thing might be saved yet. Cultural Reset. Uno Reverse.

Take that, self-expression. Welcome to personhood and presence.
